Das gemeinsame und fortlaufende Projekt "Pflanzenatem" und "Wolkenatem" verfolgen Klaus Illi und Bettina Bürkle neben ihrer je eigenen künstlerischen Arbeit seit 1999.

 

Die Poesie des kinetischen Skulpturenfeldes entsteht aus der Langsamkeit und Vielfalt der Bewegung, einem ruhigen Fließen von Farben und Formen, einem organischen Auf und Ab, Öffnen und Schließen.

Um den Betrachter entfaltet sich ein kontinuierlich bewegtes Bild der Wandlung und Fülle, das nicht nur mit den Augen, sondern mit dem eigenen Körper erfasst wird.
Die Pflanzen bewegen sich fast schwerelos, strecken sich dem Licht entgegen und lassen den Raum atmen.

Kunst, Natur und Technik streben nach utopischer Vereinigung, als ob der Paradigmenwechsel bereits vollzogen sei.
Außen- und Innenraum, Hülle und Luftstrom bilden ein organisches Kontinuum von Atemgeben und Atemnehmen, in das der Betrachter einbezogen ist.
Jede Pflanze scheint eigene Abfolgen von Frühling und Herbst, Morgen und Abend, Blühen und Vergehen zu kennen. Das sich permanent wandelnde Gesamtbild erzeugt ein Gefühl von Lebenslust, ein Fließen von Lebensenergie - fast ein Paradies, das für Momente mit der Vergänglichkeit versöhnt.

 

 

The artists Klaus Illi + Bettina Bürkle have persued the collaborative and ongoing project

"Plantbreath" and "Cloudbreath" besides their individual artistic works since 1999.

The oversized field of kinetic sculptures is in constant states of change.

The poetry of the kinetic sculptural field arises from the slowness and diversity of movements, a quiet flow of color and form organically rising and falling, opening and closing.
The viewer enters a continuously moving ambience in which shape and space exist symbiotically in a continuum of giving and taking breath, toward a palpable sense that space itself breathes.

Growth, tropic stretching toward sunlight, the natural world coming into bloom––the installation recalls all of these as the forms swell with “breathing in.” As the shapes subside or depressurize, on the other hand, we think of relaxing and "breathing out." As if in a physical (as opposed to merely imagistic) time-lapse, we encounter polarities of activity and rest, of becoming and passing, of giving and taking associated with the physical and chronological pneumatic processes of the exchange of air. The complementary rhythms of rising and falling in the various pieces comprising the installation induce a contemplative state in which art, nature and technology seem to merge, and point back toward the exchange of air and elements essential for human existence.

In time, it becomes clear that the forms themselves are not the primary sculptural material. Rather air itself is the medium for cyclical breath-like sculptural acts. These are strongly performative sculptures, whose individual and collective movements create uncommon awareness of time and finiteness, and of the sound and quietness of the elemental life-events associated with breath and breathing.
